What is it like?
We seek to eliminate the barriers to access and invite youth in underrepresented communities to join us for this adventure! To that end, we are offering 10 rider scholarships, where all costs are covered by donations from our extended team. Details for the program are below:
Program will run approximately 6 months from Sept - Feb
Weekly rides lasting ~1.5 hours
All equipment provided: Bikes, Helmets, Gloves, Glasses, Team Shirts, Water bottles
Periodic educational sessions such as healthy eating, bike safety, bike maintenance…
5 graduation races held in Rock Hill, SC in January and February
Option to earn an “upcycled” bike through Trips for Kids Charlotte partnership
To create the best experience for everyone and work within the geographic and financial limits of this program, we request that applicants adhere to the following guidelines:
Youth ages 10-14
Have basic biking skills
Have the ability to attend the majority of weekly rides (<70% or 20 out of 30) at Southwest District Trails, which are adjacent to the Southview Recreational Center: 1720 Vilma St., Charlotte, NC 28208
Code of Conduct: To create a welcoming and supportive environment of respect, equality, kindness, and fellowship we ask the following of parents and youth:
Parents:
Ensure your child attends rides; proactively communicate to your coach when unable to attend.
Be respectful of coaches & other participants and display good sportsmanship.
Youth:
Give 100 percent effort to rides, races, and events. This effort will demonstrate your commitment to the group and respect for your coaches and peers.
Act with respect toward myself and the people around me, including my parents, my coaches, my peers, my opponents, and the volunteers.
Accept responsibility for my actions and live and ride with integrity.
